  18:29 (IST)22 Jun 2021Income Tax filing new portal glitches: ICAI makes presentations to Finmin officials, Infosys representatives

  Chartered accountants’ apex body ICAI on Tuesday (June 22, 2021) made presentations on various issues being faced on the new Income Tax e-filing portal during a meeting with finance ministry officials and Infosys representatives. The ministry organised a meeting to review the glitches and issues related to the new portal, which was launched on June 7.

  The meeting was chaired by Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister. Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj, CBDT Chairman Jagannath Mohapatra and other finance ministry officials were also present.

  Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) said officials from CBDT and Infosys were very receptive to the issues being conveyed by it.

  ”They assured that the issues will be taken care of and shall be resolved at the earliest,” ICAI said in a statement. The ministry had asked ICAI to constitute a task force of seven representatives to look into the technical glitches/ issues being faced on the new portal. Accordingly, taking cognizance of the matter, a team of seven members was constituted by ICAI President Nihar N Jambusaria to analyse the issues. PTI

  Finance ministry officials will meet representatives of Infosys on June 22 to discuss issues and glitches in the new income tax e-filing portal as users continue to face inconvenience even after a week of its launch.

  Members from ICAI, auditors, consultants and taxpayers will also be part of the interactive meeting, during which the Infosys team will answer queries, clarify issues and receive inputs on the working of the portal, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said in a statement on Tuesday.   The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has granted relaxation in electronic filing of forms 15CA & 15CB in view of difficulties reported by taxpayers in filing of forms online on the new e-filing portal. Taxpayers have been complaining about the difficulties since the launch of the new e-filing website – https://incometax.gov.in.

  A week after the Income Tax Department’s much publicised new e-filing portal went live, users continued to face technical glitches ranging from longer than usual logging time, inability to respond to notices and not all features functioning yet, chartered accountants said on Monday.

The videos, FAQ and various tutorials and the ITR preparation software to ease the discomfort of new tax payers who may not be computer savvy is a good start. While its early to comment on the ease of use for which one needs to access the portal, the portal does indicate issuance of quicker tax return processing and faster refunds which is a welcome step.”

  The new e-filing website will enable a new online tax payment system with multiple new payment options using net banking, UPI, credit card and RTGS/NEFT from any account of taxpayer in any bank, for easy payment of taxes. “The mobile app will also be released subsequent to the initial launch of the portal, to enable taxpayers to get familiar with the various features,” the CBDT said. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) frames policy for the Income Tax Department and the e-filing website is used by the taxpayers to file their tax returns and perform other transactions with the department.   The Ministry of Finance said that the new tax payment system will be launched on June 18, 2021 after the advance tax instalment date to avoid any taxpayer inconvenience. A mobile app will also be released after the initial launch of the w-filing portal. The app will enable taxpayers to get familiar with various features.

  ”Familiarization with the new system may take some time, so, the Department requests the patience of all taxpayers/stakeholders for the initial period after the launch of the new portal and while other functionalities get released since this is a major transition. This is another initiative by CBDT towards providing ease of compliance to its taxpayers and other stakeholders,” the Ministry said.
